I want to know more

NTU provides an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) aimed at supporting staff wellbeing. The programme provides access to an Employee Assistance Helpline, which is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and allows staff to seek confidential and independent advice and support in areas such as:

  • work
  • emotional help
  • health
  • family
  • retirement
  • money
  • relationships
  • and addictions.

To access the helpline call 0800 328 1437 (Freephone), quoting NTUSTAFF.

As well as the helpline, staff can also access an online support network. When making contact, staff are not required to provide personal details if they do not wish too but rather, state that they work for NTU with the password or log on details being: NTUSTAFF.

Staff who have made contact with the Employee Assistance Helpline will be directed to the appropriate adviser, such as a counsellor or lawyer, and will incur no cost for the advice provided. If counselling is the identified intervention or method of support, following a telephone counselling assessment, staff can be offered up to six face-to-face counselling sessions or four cognitive behavioural therapy sessions.

When the programme launched in September 2016, all staff were provided with an EAP booklet that describes how to get the best out of the programme. If you have not received your booklet, contact the Wellbeing Team or visit the online support network.

The programme is provided by Wellbeing Solutions Management (WSM), who have a proven track record of working with higher education institutions, and is available to all staff and any family members over 16, who live at your address.

To access the helpline call 0800 328 1437 (Freephone), quoting NTUSTAFF.

How can the service help you?

You can use the helpline anytime to talk, completely confidentially, about whatever is on your mind. You may want to talk to someone because you are struggling, feel worried, frustrated or distressed or you may need some practical advice from our experts.

The website also provides you with information, links and other useful websites for issues that you may be facing in regards to law and rights, emotional help, work, health, family, older people, money, relationships and addiction. If you can’t find what you are looking for, just ask.

Who am I ringing?

The service is operated by Wellbeing Solutions Management, an independent provider of counselling and advice services.

What happens when I call?

You will be asked the name of your employer and then invited to briefly explain your reason for calling. This enables WSM to understand which of their services can best help you. You can then agree a call back time, which is at your convenience. This call-back system means we can arrange the right expert to be available for you, whilst also helping you to prepare yourself to get the most out of the session.

What happens when I get my scheduled call back?

When you are connected to an expert, they will ask you to relay your questions and concerns in full detail.
If you are calling for advice which references any supportive documents (such as contract of employment) please have that to hand in time for the call. If you are calling for counselling, your counsellor will always first carry out a telephone assessment, to determine the level of care you need.

What if I can’t or don’t answer the telephone when you call back?

WSM try to call you three times, over the period of 15 minutes, on the number you have provided. If you are still unable to pick up, you are welcome to ring us again to schedule another time.

Please note that the number you do provide must be able to accept ‘withheld’ telephone numbers, please check with your phone provider if you aren’t sure.

Can I ring anonymously?

Your use of this website and the telephone helpline service is completely confidential. You only need to state your employer.
Anonymous statistical data about the usage of the website and/or the helpline may be collected to help WSM develop and evaluate the service, but this will never breach your individual confidentiality.
